Pipe Spring National Monument
Located in a remote corner of Arizona, you do not have to imagine how things have changed at Pipe Spring because they really have not. The life giving water provided American Indians and Mormon pioneers the possibility of life in an otherwise barren landscape. At the monument, you can tour the museum, walk around the fort, cabins, garden, orchard or take a walk on the Ridge Trail. At certain times you can attend living history demonstrations and talks. The museum teaches about the Kaibab Paiutes, their interactions with other tribes and cultures, the movement of Mormon settlers into the area, as well as modern day Paiute culture. The Winsor Castle is accessible by ranger guided tours. On your own, you can tour the grounds of the monument. In the summer you can enjoy pioneer and American Indian crops from the garden including peach, apple, apricot, plum, and crab-appple trees, as well as grapes. In the corrals are horses and longhorn cattle. A hike on the 1/2 mile long Ridge Trail offers great views of the Arizona Strip.
